Painting & Sculpture: The Baroque age

The Baroque age as the Renaissance born in Italy, was developed from late 16th to 18th centuries, when, due to the separation of Protestants form the Catholic Church, the Catholic Church looked for ways to influence the audience leaving Mannerism behind; with these efforts, the church also gave artists important commissions.

Baroque used revolutionary styles, with drama, light and contrast of colors; in different themes such as religious and daily situations with ordinary clothing, the frescoes and painting in ceilings were common; Artists like Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and Annibale Carracci were the most famous in this period.

Sculpture in Baroque Art was really fantastic; sculptors captured dramatic moments and made their sculptures seem real some representatives were: Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Antonio RaggiFilipo Parodi.
